Placing Wellbeing at the Heart of Schools

A Virtual CPD Conference for Teachers and School Leaders: 10am - 2pm Saturday 2nd April 2022

Who is this CPD event for?

You are a teacher or school leader who is curious about how to nurture student and teacher wellbeing.

You would like a better understanding of whole-school approaches to wellbeing.

You are a teacher who holds a position of responsibility for wellbeing at your school and would like to increase your awareness of the topic.

You want to develop a clear understanding of the steps you could take to enhance wellbeing in your classroom - and across your school.

You are a teacher who wants to learn tried and tested approaches to wellbeing for students, and teachers.

You want to be inspired, motivated and informed about wellbeing in education.

The vision and ambition of the Department of Education and Skills in relation to Wellbeing Promotion sets out to ensure that by 2023
• the promotion of wellbeing will be at the core of the ethos of every school and centre for education

• all schools and centres for education will provide evidence-informed approaches and support, appropriate to need, to promote the wellbeing of all their children and young people

To implement this policy every school and centre for education is required by 2023, to use the School Self-Evaluation (SSE) process to initiate a wellbeing promotion review and development cycle.

Wellbeing Policy Statement and Framework for Practice , DES 2019

By the end of this CPD event, you will:

  • Have clear, practical guidance on how to implement wellbeing initiatives in your classroom and school, instead of feeling like you are clueless on what you are supposed to do.
  • Know what is possible and achievable in terms of nurturing wellbeing for you and your students, instead of feeling like you are reaching beyond yourself.
  • Have clear steps on how to build a wellbeing strategy either in class or whole-school, instead of feeling like you are alone and worrying that you are not doing enough.
  • Feel empowered to use the tools and resources shared in the virtual conference to place wellbeing at the heart of your school or classroom, instead of feeling unsure about what to do.

Research has shown that building professional capacity of teachers enhances not only the wellbeing and empowerment of teachers themselves, but has a positive impact on the systems which acknowledges the interaction of wellbeing and achievement

Why have you created this event for teachers and school leaders?

We believe in the core importance of student and teacher wellbeing.

Our name, Rahoo, comes from the Irish word ‘rathú’ which means ‘to thrive’.

The Department of Education launched the revised Wellbeing Policy Statement and Framework for Practice in October, 2019.

To implement this policy every school and centre for education is required by 2023, to use the School Self-Evaluation (SSE) process to initiate a wellbeing promotion review and development cycle.

We want to support teachers and schools in placing wellbeing at the heart of schools with practical ideas and tangible steps.
